Mango Dal / Mamidikaya Pappu



Ingredients:

Tur Dal 1 cup
Raw Mango (Medium Sized)
Green Chillies
Turmeric
Salt and Chilli Powder as per individual requirement

Optional: 

Tomatoes : 1
Coriander 1 bunch finely chopped

For Tadka:

Oil - 2 tablespoons
Garlic Cloves 4
Mustard - 1/2 tablespoon
Jeera - 1/2 tablespoon
Red Chillies - 2
Curry Leaves
Hing

Peel of the Raw Mango and cut it into pieces. Wash Tur Dal and add it to the pressure cooker. Take 3 cups of water. Now add the mango pieces, chopped tomato, slit green chillies, turmeric, 1/2 table spoon chilli powder and pressure cook it until the dal is well cooked.

Once the dal is cooked add salt as required and adjust the consistency of dal ( add water and boil if you would like the dal to be little runny). Mash the cooked dal with laddle.

Add oil to the tadka pan. When it is hot roast the garlic, add mustard, jeera, red chillies, hing, curry leaves and coriander leaves (optional). Leave it for a minute and add it to the cooked dal.

Tangy Mango Dal is ready to be served with hot rice and ghee.

I love using tomatoes in my dishes as it enhances the flavour of any curry or dal. You can proceed with the recipe without using it.
